Here are some of our thoughts about reading, which we shared at our last school assembly…
I like reading because it is fun when you get to go on Storyline Online and do RAZ Reading. I like reading in the library corner and from all the other books in my classroom.
Maddex
I like reading because I can learn words when I read them. Some books are funny, some of them are sad, and some of them are happy. Reading can help people get smarter and smarter. I love reading.
Huanran
I like reading because it takes you deep in your imagination and feels like you’re in your own world.
Quinn
I like reading because when you read it’s like you are in another world with your imagination. You can also make a connection with the characters. I love how clever the authors are with the blurb on the back. It makes me so intrigued.
Libby
I like reading because it can teach you a lesson. If you read carefully you can learn new sorts of ways to use punctuation.
Sharanya
I like reading because it’s challenging and it helps you learn. I don’t have a favourite book because I love all of them. If you read every week you will be a master of reading.
Olivia
I like reading because when I read I become a character of the book. One of the best things about reading is that it helps you with writing as well.
Clara
I like reading chapter books because they have feelings about the main people. You can imagine without pictures. One of my favourite authors is Joy Cowley because she writes funny and joyful stories.
Chanel
I like reading because some books teach you facts. I do lots of reading because it helps my brain and because it amuses me. At home I spend lots of my time reading books. They teach me words.
Ishan
My favourite book is ‘Savage Earth’ because it tells you all about volcanoes. Flowing lava glows, spits, hisses and crackles and seems to have a life of its own.
Anastasia
I love reading! Reading can also help you with writing. Every night before I go to sleep I read. When I read, it is like the author is reading, not me. Reading is my favourite subject.
Freya
I like books that have personal voice and humour, where you can imagine what’s happening in the story. Reading can teach you descriptive writing.
Harper
I like reading because it’s fun and imaginative. Reading helps a lot with your learning especially spelling. Books can be funny, scary or weird. Books can take you into a whole new world.
Putri
When I’m reading my family does not bother me because it snaps me out of my happy place. I can imagine what the people look like.
Zach
A story can be the sweetest song from a bird or it can be as dark and scary as a stormy night. It can be about love or it could be about revenge. When I’m reading I’m in a world of my own.

I like playing 'Hit the Button' because it helps me with my times tables and division. The game tests you on facts.

We LOVE reading!
At home I read lots of old fashioned books that I get from the library. I normally get about three to six books each time.
Ava
Every night I go to my bookshelf and take a book that I haven't read. Sometimes I read it to my brother but most of all I like reading it in my head.
Bessie
In my spare time I read some Goosebumps books or some other books by R.L Stine. At school I like reading chapter books too because they're going to last you for a long time and I think chapter books are interesting.
Gary
When I've done my homework I usually sit and read books for hours on my bed. Sometimes I think books can take me on an adventure!
Nylah
In the holidays I read animal facts about the first animals that lived in the world and dinosaurs. I enjoyed it because I like dinosaurs and I think if I read dinosaur books I can go to the dinosaur world that I've imagined.
Felix
I've been practising Maori by myself at home and I was also teaching my parents how to say yes and no. I have been practising how to pronounce words.
